Vintage Guitars, History in your Hands
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010Why is the older guitar the more sought after guitar? Hand made guitars age well over time. The tone will become more balanced or pleasing as they say.
Is it a vintage guitar only because it is old?.
There are other things to consider that matter when you are thinking about a vintage guitar. A guitar is more valuable if it is not available, perhaps made in a limited run. There are assorted models of Martin guitars that are scarcebecause they were made in short runs of an individual design.
The Les Paul Gold Top guitar had a particularly sought after finish and golden color which also aged well. With the Fender Stratocaster the quality was more sought after during an earlier time of the companys history. There are also signature guitars which are most often endorsed by a famous guitar player and bears their name. This does not make them vintage but it does increase their value. A guitar may also be cherished if it was owned by someone notable and famous in the entertainment industry. If the guitar was played at a big concert like Woodstock, that would make it more sought after as well. A guitar that has a great sound will be valued regardless of the age of the guitar.
The amplifiers used in times past can also be a vintage offshoot of the guitar collectables market. Vox, Marshall and Fender amplifiers have particularly delicate sound reproduction capabilities. The older amps worked on tubes, not solid state and have a delicate sound quality.
A guitar can be as much of a work of art as any other prized object. To own a vintage guitar is to own a piece of modern music history. It is truly a treat and a pleasure to hold, play or own a classic guitar. Modern rock and roll came into being with these instruments.
Many of the vintage guitars we see today, have been restored, to make them sound and play as close to the as possible.
